On 20 December 2015, Westlite Tuas celebrated International Migrants Day with its residents. The celebrations were graced by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Singapore, His Excellency Mahabub Uz Zaman. The High Commissioner was also brought on a tour of the dormitory and interacted with some of the residents.
To kick start the celebrations, the High Commissioner delivered a speech to thank the residents for their contributions and hard work put into helping to build Singapore. The High Commissioner also extended his appreciation to Westlite Tuas for providing the residents with quality and comfortable accommodation within a safe and active community.
The residents and guests were then treated to a series of dance and song performances specially catered to the Bangladeshi audience. As the night progressed, more residents joined in the festivities, with over 3,500 residents gathering to watch the performances put together for them.
As the evening drew to a close, the High Commissioner and guests enjoyed a dinner reception where they met with the management team of Westlite Tuas to learn more about the operations. The High Commissioner also distributed goody bags to all the residents as a token of appreciation.
The support by the High Commission for Bangladesh made for a very successful International Migrants Day celebrations this year. The celebrations represent not only the gratitude of Westlite Tuas to its residents, but also the strong cooperation between the dormitory and the High Commission for Bangladesh. This partnership plays an important role in ensuring the well-being of Bangladeshi residents and Westlite hopes to continue to grow this friendship in the years to come.
